Week One of Our Project
Our two classrooms in the St. Thomas were split up into 10 teams. At the same time the classroom in Lakewood WA did the
same. The class discussed what role water plays in our world. From that discussion, the teams in St. Thomas came up with 5
general topics and the Washington team did the same. Each team chose one of the 10 topics to begin researching.
Weeks Two and Three
Each team found a sub-topic that they would narrow down their research to, choice a driving question, and begin to see
what they could learn about their topic.
Week Four
During week four we scheduled fieldtrips to the University of the Virgin Islands and Coral World, a local aquarium. We
also scheduled in speakers from UVI to talk with the students about Water Quality and Mangrove Habitats.
Weeks Five and Six
Each team was to find a hands-on project related to their topic. Some teams found experiments, while others found ways
of explaining their topic through visual demonstrations or modelling.

Weeks Seven and Eight
Each team began to create a web quest that would encourage other students around the world to explore their topics. The
web quests include one or more links to other websites as well as questions for the reader to answer by going to the linked
sites.
All of the VI teams included their suggested hands-on projects as ane of their web quest activities.
